Postponed: GUN VIOLENCE VIGIL THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14
This year alone, over 38,000 lives have been lost to gun violence. That is why we invite you to join the National Vigil and Day of Action Against Gun Violence on December 14, 2017, the fifth anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings. In solidarity with the Newtown Alliance, Faiths United to Prevent Gun Violence, and multiple gun violence organizations across the nation, the Coalition Against Gun Violence (CAGV) and the Unitarian Society are hosting the Interfaith Vigil on
Thursday, December 14 at 5:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. NEW DATE TBA
In this season during which we often speak about peace, we will focus on rededication and a renewed call to action to reduce violence. All those gathered will be invited to participate in the CAGV’s traditional Bell Ceremony, “For Whom the Bell Tolls.” Any member of the audience who has lost a family member or friend to gun violence is welcomed and encouraged to come up, say the name of their loved one, and ring the bell as we remember the personal toll that gun violence takes in our community.
After the vigil, write-in “#HonorWithAction” postcards will be available so that we can urge Congress to support gun violence prevention legislation. Vigils alone will not solve the problem, but we must come together to remember the lost and strengthen our spirits so that we can do the work of building a more peaceful world.
