Buildings & Grounds

Located at 1535 Santa Barbara street, the Unitarian Church sits directly across from the lovely Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens. The 80-year-old historic building has designed in the Spanish style and incorporates many beautiful antique architectural elements. The sanctuary has a rounded ceiling, a raised chancel and altar area, tiled floor and two large stained glass windows. Gardens surround the church building. A unique brick courtyard with center fountain is enclosed within the church grounds and is accessible from the sanctuary or the reception facility. With lovely outdoor lighting, the gardens make a beautiful setting for daytime or evening photography. You will find many opportunities for memorable photographs. The church campus includes a fellowship hall and kitchen that can accommodate both formal and informal receptions.

USSB's SanctuaryThe Ceremony
The church sanctuary can seat 285 guests. Original wooden pews are situated on the main floor and in a rear balcony that overlooks the sanctuary. Two large stained glass windows reflect colorful light throughout all hours of the day. Overhead lighting can be supplemented with graceful candelabras placed at each pew. The church was designed to accommodate beautiful music, and the sanctuary’s acoustics are some of the best in Santa Barbara. A Steinway grand piano and a 1,800 pipe organ are available for use during the ceremony.
The Unitarian minister and musical accompanists are available to participate in the ceremony. Please inquire about rates.

The entrance of USSB's CourtyardThe Reception

Six parking spaces are available on the church grounds. Guest parking is available in the surrounding neighborhood within walking distance to the sanctuary. Valet parking may be contracted.

More about the wedding facilities at the Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara at Here Comes the Guide and Wedding Celebrations.

Dear Facilities Manager,
I just want to thank you again for making possible our use of Jefferson Hall for Catherine Ingram's recent series of four evening talks.  We couldn't have been happier with the facility! Spacious, light, and airy, the room has a lovely feel, and everything we needed was readily at hand: the sturdy, comfortable chairs stored on rolling pallets made for easy set-up and break-down; a large folding table served well to display books and CD's; and the two small coffee tables were enlisted for flowers and a carafe of water and for supporting our portable speaker.  Overhead lights, on dimmers, allowed us to get just the light we wanted, and the length of windows along the side provided plenty of Spring air.  Importantly, we were able to unload and load our car each night very conveniently, and attendees seemed to find parking with ease.  Last, but not least, the restrooms were immaculate!

Catherine, as well as many of the attendees with whom we spoke, seemed to really appreciate the venue not just for the above tangibles but also for the spirit which informs the Unitarian Society.  Everything feels invested with conscious intent, and the results are warm, efficient, and very uplifting.  You couldn't have been better to work with, Celina, and made everything that much more enjoyable.  Thank you for addressing all our questions and concerns quickly, and for your constant willingness to make sure we had a successful event.

We will look forward to working with you and USSB again- in the meantime, many thanks and our very best wishes!

Steve Schechter (on behalf of Catherine Ingram)
