Peter Haslund, retired Professor Political Science at SBCC and now Chairman of the SBCC Board of Trustees will lead a discussion about  SBCC and his "education" about the world of real politics......as contrasted to his teaching  during the previous 40 years of academic experience. He will discuss and talk about what is going on at SBCC and how different it is to be in a position of making policy decisions as compared with teaching students about the world that we have created for them.

Revolutionary ideas about the origins, journeys and early sexual explorations of modern humans (Homo Sapiens) have been revealed in the past 25 years by powerful new technologies. Don O’Dowd, former president of the University of Alaska and retired now to Santa Barbara will explore some of these findings, the methods that produce them and some implications of this emerging knowledge.

In particular DNA analysis and contemporary dating techniques have uncovered hitherto unexpected routes and detours in the progress of humanity to its current status. The rate at which data are emerging adds to our understanding of human deep history almost daily.
