Our Calendar and Announcements

Annual Campaign Update!

Every year we make a financial investment to our congregation because we believe in our Society's mission.  We pledge because in this community we are valued and loved.  Our financial investment is what enables our congregation to exist, and by making a timely pledge we empower our Board and staff to make wise and practical decisions for the coming fiscal year.

March Sundays are our USSB Pledge Sundays.  This Sunday for your Courtyard Pledge you will receive a tiny heirloom tomato seedling, courtesy of Nancy Edmundson.  Also, you may have noticed that fellow members are wearing CHALICES on their name tags.  These are badges of annual commitment and we want you to wear one, too.  If you've pledged, please stop by the Courtyard Pledge Table to get your chalice.

Who Loves a Picnic?

And the Earth?

April 13, 12pm

Imagine this: On a warm and sunny Sunday after services, you, your friends and family take advantage of our beautiful weather and perfect location to lunch outdoors. But not alone! Walking down the block towards the park, you see them - a vibrant and happy bunch, all dedicated to enjoying the afternoon while connecting with others who want to keep our planet healthy and whole. This is the community group you've been looking for! As you spread out your blanket, you start to talk about bike riding with the people next to you. A friend comes over with a few packets of extra seeds that a USSB garden-lover is giving away. You find out about a letter writing campaign in support of carbon offsets. And next month, you'll reconnect again - no agenda or tasks to accomplish, just lunch and a desire to change the world. Maybe people from other nearby congregations start to join us. Community members bring snacks to share. And, like so many good things in Santa Barbara, it started here: At the Unitarian Society.

Want to make this vision a reality? Ben Schroeder is putting together a picnic squad, with a start-up lunch on April 13th at noon, in the park near Kid's World. Why not join him - you are going to eat lunch anyway! Let him know you want to help out.

Yoga Classes at USSB
Yoga classes at the Unitarian society are now being taught by Eliza McEmrys on Monday and Wednesday nights from 5:30-6:30 pm in Jefferson Hall!  These vinyasa (flow) and Iyengar influenced classes suitable for all ages and experience levels. Right now the cost is $10 for a drop-in or $50 per month.  If you are a member of USSB, payment is optional, but encouraged since 50% of the proceeds go to support USSB.  Contact Eliza for more information, or just come!"
