SEEking Interim director of religious education
Live with Integrity. Nurture Wonder. Inspire Action. Can you help us bring this mission to life in our Children’s Religious Education Program?
The Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara is seeking an Interim Director of Religious Education to help us shape the future of our religious education program for children and youth. We are a congregation of 440 adult members and a CRE enrollment of 30 kids, with an additional 20 youth in our high school group. Our CRE program has room to grow! We are ready to creatively respond to the evolving needs of families, children, and youth in the 21st century.
We are seeking an Interim DRE who can help us identity our strengths, understand our challenges, create vibrant and relevant programming, and cultivate lay leadership and congregational involvement. We are looking for someone with both an attention to the details of week-to-week program management as well as the ability to articulate how the CRE program embodies the mission of our congregation and the principles of Unitarian Universalism.
The Interim DRE will be joining an excellent staff team, working with the Assistant Minister for Congregational Life and Learning, supervising the part-time (10 hrs/wk) High School Youth Coordinator, the paid Sunday Teachers, and the Childcare staff.
We are a friendly workplace, located in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara, committed to fair compensation. The position is ¾ time (30 hrs/wk) and eligible for benefits, including health insurance, long-term disability benefits, PTO, and pension (when eligibility requirements are met).
The ideal applicants will be dedicated, wise, hard-working, and passionate about building a more beloved world for this and future generations. Experience with children and youth is a must, and a background in religious education is highly desirable. Applicants must be able to work independently, convey warmth and welcome to adults and children alike, be adept with media and communication technology, and be comfortable speaking in front of a crowd.
